DELPHI
On Wednesday the 20th of September to Friday the 22nd our TY group of 48 students traveled to Delphi Resort on the border of Galway and Mayo.
DAY 1
We arrived in Delphi at around one o’clock. When we got there we were assigned our rooms. We were all then divided up into groups of 4. Our instructor then told us our first activity we would be doing. It was “surfing”. Everyone was very excited. We quickly grabbed our swim wear and headed on the bus to the beach. When we got there our three instructors thought us how to surf and gave us some very useful tips. We then entered the cold freezing water. Surfing was hard at the start but after a few goes I managed to stand up a few times.
After we were finished surfing we got back on the bus and headed back to Delphi. We arrived back at around five o’clock. Dinner was at half five so we had a break for a while. For dinner we had chicken curry. I wasn’t too fond of the chicken curry but I ate most of the rice. After dinner we met up with another school from Killaloe in county Clare and played a game of rugby with them. At around seven o’clock we had our evening activity, which was energizing games. After the games we had cookies for supper. We were sent to our rooms at half ten and lights out was at eleven.
DAY 2
Wake-up call was at 7:45. For breakfast we had a choice of cereal, toast and sausages with beans. Breakfast was from 8:00 to 9:00. After breakfast we were told our activity for the day. We would be doing a 27km hike for Gaisce. We all arrived at the adventure hub that morning in our hiking boots and hiking gear. As we were doing a long hike we were provided with a backed lunch. We got a sandwich, a bar of chocolate, an apple and a bottle of water. On our hike we were all continually awed by the truly magnificent scenery of the Delphi Valley. During our hike we took a few breaks alone the way to eat our lunch and to keep hydrated. We finally finished the hike at around half three and arrived back at Delphi Resort at four.
When we got back, we went straight to our rooms to have showers and to get ready for dinner. That night for dinner we had spaghetti Bolognese. We then went to our evening activity which was a bonfire. We all sat around the fire singing songs and telling stories. After that we had muffins for supper and went to our rooms at half ten.
DAY 3
Our wake-up call was at 7:45 again. We quickly backed our bags and brought them up to the “adventure hub” and went back down for breakfast. Breakfast was the same again.
Once again we were divided into our groups for our last activity in Delphi. Our group did land activities which included climbing, tunneling and team tasks. The climbing was challenging as most people weren’t particularly fond of heights. I liked the climbing but I enjoyed the surfing more! We were finished the land activities at around half one and our bus came at two to bring us a long three hour journey back to Portumna.
Overall I really enjoyed Delphi and I would recommend any TY group to visit this great place.
